Laramie Interfaith launching renewable energy project with support from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program participants

Blue Sky community projects funding makes solar panels possible at local food pantry.

LARAMIE, Wy. — Laramie Interfaith will soon generate its own clean, renewable power thanks to a funding award from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program participants. The money will support the installation of solar panels at Laramie Interfaith, helping our organization combat food insecurity and homelessness.

The award of $100,30 will cover 80% of the installation cost of the solar panels.

Laramie Interfaith joins more than 200 organizations across Rocky Mountain Power’s service area that, since 2006, have received awards for community-based renewable projects, including solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy. This project is one of several selected this year through a competitive evaluation process.

“Receiving the Blue Sky award from Rocky Mountain Power is another giant step towards ensuring a sustainable future for our work,” said Josh Watanabe, Executive Director. “Very early on, our board had planned to install solar on our, back-then, new building as another goal and step in line with our capital campaign goals of reducing the costs of operations so that we can continue to focus on supporting our community."
“We are incredibly grateful to Rocky Mountain Power, and all of the Blue Sky customers who help support this program,” Watanabe said.

Blue Sky is an opt-in program that gives Rocky Mountain Power customers the option to match all or part of their energy use with renewable energy – reducing their carbon footprints and driving demand for new renewable energy in the West. Through the Blue Sky Block option, participants also support qualifying, renewable energy projects for community-serving organizations such as schools, community centers and arts organizations.

Construction on Laramie Interfaith’s project will begin in Spring 2024.
